Wightlink User Group - New Name and family discounts!

WUG is now STUG

Dear Supporters

As we have expanded to include Red Funnel (and Hovertravel when necessary) in our efforts for a fairer ferry service, we have changed our name to Solent Transport User Group (STUG).

We have realised some good wins today from Wightlink. We will announce the details at our Ferry Update meeting on the 27 June at Riverside, Newport, between 5-6.30pm.

As you know, we have Richard Quigley, Joe Robertson, Phil Jordan and Sir Paul Kenny joining us to update us on the Island Charter.

We will address devolution in relation to ferries, the ministerial efforts by our MPs, the possibility of competitors and the issues and challenges/future of Red Funnel. We will give you updates on our efforts and our direction of travel (did you see what I did there?).

Lastly, we have been successful in getting a 35% discount for friends and family, for those with a multilink 10 pass. People with 20,40 and 60 passes already had discounts given. If you have a 10 pass and haven’t received the email, can you please turn notifications on in your WL account. I am compiling a list of those (there are many) who haven’t received their codes, if you want me to chase for you, please let me know.

You are very welcome to join us next Friday. Again, we need your names and numbers so we have a chair for you!

Best wishes

Bronwyn and the STUG team

HOME NEWS ABOUT Dear All, A belated Happy New Year to you! Our news for 2026 is that we have been included on the Solent Transport Infrastructure Forum being chaired by Brian Johnson. We look forward to having a real discussion and say in cross Solent transport. We have also had an initial meeting with Fran Collins and Neil Chapman from Red Funnel, we are hopeful that this relationship will be as fruitful as the one with Wightlink. We have dates for regular meetings throughout the year....

HOME NEWS ABOUT Many of the committee attended the Wightlink Forum on 22nd October. Some of the things discussed: Sunset Flyer hours have been improved/extended for winter (until end of December). You can return to the island between 6pm and 9am with this ticket . The cost has been reduced to £80 return. We have had assurances that staff will be on hand to help with luggage, push chairs etc on the Fastcat. The management are acutely aware how difficult it can be, they are hoping and trying to...

HOME NEWS ABOUT Dear Reader Private Equity acquisition/ownership of our ferries is responsible for the erosion/cost of our Solent transport services. This has now been well documented and is similar to the erosion/cost of many other areas of vital services, like our water companies. We are aware that the struggling Red Funnel ferry company are being eyed up for resale to yet another private equity firm, North Leaf Capital. No doubt this acquisition is seemingly seen as a lucrative earner for...
