Getting Fairer Ferries - STUG (WUG) News


We have some wins from Wightlink…here they are:

  • 35% codes for friends and family, used over the summer, book before 15 July..for those with 10 multilink passes. (Those with 20,40 and 60 were already entitled to these codes).
  • Extended out of office hours contact coming soon.
  • Mainland dental appointments and some agreements in place with private health providers for discounted crossing (travelling from island) now included in the NHS discounted travel scheme (max £70 return car ferry).
  • Multi link capacity increase … updates 3 times a week: sailings today, sailing in next 7 days, sailing in next 28 days to be advertised on their website
  • Accessible travel Pass. Blue badge, ENCTS and persons with disabilities railcard - multi-link pass. WL will be introducing a multilink pass which will enable customers to purchase a book of discounted tickets in one process. This will launch next week. Worked with CAMHS, health watch, Applegate cancer support, 2 STUG members and 5 IOW patient council , separate meeting with Daisy chain and Wessex cancer support.
  • Youth travel support - Every school has been approached, free travel codes to schools and college who have indicated that they would like to participate. 2 x free foot passenger for 16/17 year olds annually. 1/2 price travel for school trips, NEETS, mainland interviews, UNi of PT open days. Isle of Wight youth trust will also have discretionary free crossings they can give out as and when necessary.
  • Sunset flyer for islanders trial for 3 months. Leave the island before 9am and return after 9pm. £45 each way. Up to 30 day duration. Starts 1 July! (An example would be leave 3rd July 8am ferry from fishbourne and return 15 July 10pm ferry.)
  • If Sunset flyer is successful, this will be rolled out for mainlanders coming to the island.

All of this is in addition to WUG (as we were), getting the late night Cats back, uninterrupted day Fastcats, without a gap of two hours, a dedicated phone line for the disabled and NHS travellers, friends and family discounts and the NHS car ferry fixed rate.

We will not stop! We will get fairer ferries!

We look forward to having a real discussion and say in cross Solent transport.
